2016 is here. Shouldn’t we have jetpacks by now?
Anyway, to continue the forward momentum I’m trying to establish, I thought I’d chat a moment about the New Year.
Resolutions. I’m not too sure I believe in them anymore. Chalk this one up under the litany of articles you’ve read about the failures and successes of NY resolutions. The Motherhood in Hollywood blog wrote a great article on resolutions for the new year. The gist was that with the enormous failures of the majority of NY resolutions, why even bother? Why go through the emotional stress of trying to hold yourself up to an ideal you probably will fail at anyway?
That being said, Id like to address some things Id like to accomplish anyway, in 2016. Not resolutions, specifically, but goals. Low pressure goals that I’m not going to sweat too much…
- Less boozy booze. Despite the success of champagne Fridays (also mentioned in the MIH blog), I’m going to attempt a dry January. Its a growing movement (started in the UK) where for 31 days, you stop the sauce. Health benefits abound!! Better sleep, weight loss, x-ray vision and invisibility are just a few of the benefits you can reap by not drinking for a month*. Seriously though. I’m going to try to put down the wine bottle(s) and maybe pick up a book or exercise tape or something…
- More focus on my work. For the last year or so, I have to admit, I’ve really been coasting in my career. Now that I’m at a company I really like (at Disney now, BTW. For the next year!), I think I should start getting serious.
- Travel. There are a couple of milestones coming up this year (anniversary and wife birthday, to name a couple). Perfect chance to travel a bit. We’ll see…
- Weight loss. A common one, I know. But along with the less drinking, I think losing some lbs will actually help with a lot. Better sleep, better appearance, etc etc. I’m going to team up with MIH for the 15 by 15 Challenge. Basically, losing 15 pounds by our 15th wedding anniversary.
- Music. I need more of it. Much much much much more. Thinking about an album a week for the next year. Woot! With that, hopefully we can get back to discussing music on this blog…
So, there we go. 2016 in a nutshell.
Like I said, not really resolutions, though you could conceivably see these as such. Oh well, fuck it.
