The new year gives everyone a opportunity to start fresh, right? For years, I’ve attempted basic fresh starts with varying degrees of success. Read more. Eat better. Start running. Make more money. Etc. Etc. Yada Yada Yada…
This year, it seems I’m in a better position do do just that. I mentioned before that I was going into the new year unemployed and sober. Well, most of that is still true.
Don’t worry. Still sober. Dry January is rockin’.
I did land a new gig, however. I left my last job in November after eight years of consulting with them. My initial thought was that I needed something more permanent. You know, lay down some roots. Get some equity on a position with a company, move up the ladder, and eventually retire.
Great American dream right? Well maybe… Turns out, I’m pretty good at consulting, and I cannot ignore the equity I already have in the consulting field. Should it become my permanent career? I’m actually not sure. But for now it seems right.
And if I get a sizable raise (which I did) and signing bonus (yep) by moving to this new firm, that couldn’t hurt, right? Nah.
As for everything else, my sobriety is still my priority. As well as my mental and physical health. Daily meditation and exercise have become things that I require and look forward too every day. 4-5 days a week at the gym and eternal vigilance on my mindset help me on a weekly/daily basis. I honestly feel better than I’ve felt in a long time.
Still eating shitty, but it’s a work in progress, right?
